Computer Qualifications

In 1969 I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (Go Red Hawks).  I had helped put myself through college by working in the Audio-visual department.  This is where I became a audio-visual geek.

Upon graduation I became a teacher in Kings Local School District (by Kings Island) and because of my audio-visual experience I was put in charge of the audio-visual equipment.  I completed my masters degree in 1972 from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I continued teaching and prepared myself for school administration.

Beginning assistant principals get every job in the school district that no one else wants.   My superintendent assigned me five tasks which gave me an introduction to the computer world.  (Quote: "Because no one else knows anything about computers")  My jobs included:

1.    Decide which hardware and software would be purchased for the school district.  I was in charge of setting up a district wide system which included the district file server in my office.  This server was run by a Novell Network.

2.    Oversee the district's community education programs - which were to include as many computer offerings as possible.

3.    Take over the district's publicity including compiling required statistics.   I had to publish a monthly district newsletter with pictures.  Later I was responsible for school web sites.

4.    Be in charge of computer training for the district.

5.    Be responsible compiling district testing results in a district wide database.

The neat thing was that no other administrator (when I stated)  knew anything about computers; so I had total control of what we would purchase and what training I needed.

I was sent for training in Washington DC, Chicago, Toronto, and Detroit.   During this time received my computer teaching certification from the state.

I had graduated from a audio-visual geek to a computer geek.  When I became a principal I was replaced by a separate publicity person, a training  person, a computer technician,  a purchasing person, and a testing person.

I have taught the following classes, either in a community education course or to school personnel (teachers, administrators, secretaries).

Mirosoft:    Word, Approach, Publisher, Powerpoint, Frontpage, Outlook, and Excel.

Wordperfect

Adobe Photoshop

Dbase

Filemaker Pro

I am presently leaning Microsoft Expressions the newest Web Design Software.

I am presently teaching the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) database program for the Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors.

And numerous lesser known programs.

I have on my computer numerous digital photography programs, a top end Epson scanner that will scan to 4800 PPI, and can transfer most types of photo/audio materials to CD/DVD.

I own 4 computers and often use three at a time.  If that isn't being a geek I don't know what is.

Computer Skills are excellent - Able to use the computer to find or sell a perfect house.  (Taught a variety of adult education classes on data base management, internet research, word processing, making web sites.)

I love houses – I’m not an artist (though I love art), my musical ability is mediocre (I play guitar and have been known to accompany people with real talent in church), as a teacher I directed school plays and enjoyed it immensely but don't think I'm Broadway Bound.  I was also a football coach, basketball coach (boys and girls), track coach (boys and girls), and an athletic director but don't think I'm in line for the next Olympics.  My ability to see and improve houses is where I will use my creativity.

I use this creativity in  finding houses and in fixing houses. When I go into a house my mind goes into overdrive. I see walls being moved, kitchens upgraded, bathrooms updated, and houses becoming homes.  I took classes and became certified as a home inspector.  I have no desire to be a home inspector but I felt that I needed to be able to better prepare myself in the evaluation of houses.

I was an educator for 35 years (I was a middle school principal for about 20 years and a teacher for 15 years). During those years I used my summers to buy houses that needed work and would fix them up to sell or rent out. So I have many years in the buying and selling of houses business. Not until I retired from education did I get into the real estate sales part of the business. I believe my years of experience as a buyer, a seller, and yes even as a "for sale by owner" seller, makes me aware of the needs and fears of both buyers and sellers.

My wife and I once had a kitchen cabinet maker look at our house and all the work we were doing. He said, "you two watch way to much of the 'Home and Garden' channel". If they had degrees from the "Home and Garden" channel we would both have a masters degrees. Working with houses is not just a profession but something we both enjoy doing

I have been told that you can always find me because of my laugh.  Life is too short not to be able to have fun and I do enjoy humor.  Many people enjoy working with me, but I am a task oriented person and very analytical.   I can be a very valuable person in your real estate transactions.

Call me if you would like to discuss your needs.
